John Edward Musser, 74, of Enid and formerly of Norman, died Friday, June 28, at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church in Enid with the Rev. Kevin Arensman officiating. Burial will be in Enid Cemetery. Anderson Burris Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

He was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Enid to William Wesley Sr. and Ethel (Rice) Musser. He grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of ATO Fraternity, serving as vice president of his pledge class and treasurer in 1949. He also was vice president of the OU Marketing Club in 1949 and president in 1950. He was a member of the President’s Committee of Five for Business School, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked for Caran Bros. Engineering in Texas for four years.

He married Vivian Caroline Pereira in San Antonio.

He owned and operated M&M; Oil Co. in Enid for 12 years. In 1967, he went to work for Norman High School as distributive education teacher and supervisor, and worked there until 1975. In 1970 he earned a master’s of education degree from Central State University and was on the dean’s honor roll. He returned to Enid in 1975 and became coordinator of special programs at O.T. Autry Vo-Tech. In 1976, he was the key coordinator for implementation of Big Blue wrestling at Enid High School. He retired in 1985 and was later a volunteer at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. He was a member of the Big Red Kiwanis from 1967 to 1975 and a member of the Central Christian Church. He enjoyed OU football games, horse races in Ratan, N.M., camping in Colorado and trout fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Marcia Musser of Norman and Carolyn Holden and her husband, Robert, of Enid; a son, Mark Musser and his wife, Julie, of Colleyville, Texas; four grandchildren, Christen Chaffin, Jessica and Matthew Musser and Elliott Holden; a stepgrandson, Caleb Holden; a great-granddaughter, Calista Rogers; two brothers, Harry B. Musser and his wife, Virginia, of Florida, and Richard W. Musser of California; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bill Musser Jr. of Enid.

Memorials may be made in care of the funeral home to Central Christian Church or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Heart Division.
